Monthly Competitions
Members are invited to bring in anything that they have turned in recent weeks. Judging is by the members of the club attending the meeting who all vote anonymously for the piece that they like the best. Judgement is subjective, it might be the finish to the work, the aesthetic shape, the beauty of the grain – or even the originality of applied colours. Prizes are awarded for the best novices piece and the best experienced turners piece.
Chairman's Challenge
Every month all members are invited to make the same simple item. It could be a spinning top, an egg cup, a tree or nearer Christmas, a snowman. Despite all being nominally the same the key is to make yours stand out as something a bit different. Judging this time is usually by an independent guest and again prizes are awarded. All the items are retained by the club for sale at the various fairs that we attend with the proceeds going to help with the running of the club.
